I can play sideways.

Ugh.

I'm having so many issues with tone, and my pedalboard arrangements... Can anyone help? I have a great sort of universal rhythm tone that I get from my Metal Muff, awesome. I usually put a tube screamer in front of it and have it on for solos. Cool. I need a volume boost for that but no worries. Everyone was saying I should put my overdrive AFTER the distortion box, how it sounds better and how I can control my solo volume that way... okay fine. I tried it, and no matter how I work my tone settings on the overdrive it just sounds like ALL mids and so nasaly, I lose the original tone that I had. I just want my tone, but more gain, more sustain and more volume. Putting my overdrive BEFORE my distortion did all of that except volume. I was hoping putting the OD would do the same, but just the ability to control volume thrown into that. Nope, sounds like s**t.

Not only that, but I found that I can dial in more mids when I put my distortion BEFORE my overdrive, and more mids is great, but when I had the pedals the other way around dialing in mids just made it sound really nasaly and ALL mids.

All of this is really confusing and it's making me angry... HELP!?

If you like the OD before the Muff, then no worries.  You could always set the Metal Muff's output volume higher, but if the goal is a volume boost for solos, then I would recommend the EH LPB-1.  The LPB-1 is also cheap, which is nice.

Yeah that's true. I just wanted to have a single pedal to switch on... but that's not really gonna happen unless I get one of those big, expensive switching units...

Somebody can help me out here, I think glassy showed me this page, but you can get one of those single true bypass switches and have em both on in there. Its pretty cheap and small. I think its 40 bucks. I forget the link though.

You know, I actually thought about that, then I thought building a couple might be a better idea, but I don't know. What do you think? I always wanted to start building pedals but I just didn't know how to get the skills necessary to start. Things like soldering and actually putting it together. =/

Thanks for the link!

Oh yea. You can build one for maybe half the price. and The bigger ones, like the 18 switches, would be pretty cool to have Smiley But its 400 bucks. And This is definitely an easy project to get started on for working on soldering skills and pedal-building so in the future if you ever wanted to build a fuzz you would at least have some experience.  This would probably be the easiest one to build.

Yeah, but I don't know what I need to do all that. I need a drill to drill holes in the casings, I need a soldering gun and solder, whatever that is, and I need to know HOW to solder... oh and wire too. The rest is easy. Except I don't know what a DPDT switch is and where to get one.

you can use some wires out of an old radio or something. You can also use like an Altoids tin instead of an actual box if you want Smiley Unless you stomp on your pedals it should be fine.

If I understand what the intent correctly, a single looper won't work.
You want....

OD>>>>Metal Muff>>>>Clean Boost

Right?

If, on a single looper, you put both the OD and the Boost, then they would be next to each other in the signal chain. Metal Muff either before or after both.
Even, a dual looper wouldn't work if you stepped on both switches at once. Because the Metal Muff would still be before or after the switcher, and the OD and Boost would still be next to each other. Just with the option of having one on at a time.

I'll think about more options, but wanted to get that out there before you committed to doing something that wouldn't help.

If you made a triple looper, you could put one pedal (od, metal muff, boost) into each loop.
You could put the first and third switches relatively close, so as to provide the ability to stomp on both easily, and yet make it possible to do them individually (which you may want someday). Putting the 2nd looper switch (for the metal muff) away from them.
In the end you control each of the three mentioned pedals from the looper separately, and seamlessly activate both the od and boost at the same time.

The aformentioned company has one that could work like this if you were to turn your foot side ways. Priced at $85.

But, if you're up for making your own, you could probably make it more fitting to your needs.

That's not quite what I meant; I was looking at getting a couple of TB loopers just to make things easier, not exactly to fix that specific problem. But thanks, I'll keep that in mind!

I still think an LPB-1 after the Metal Muff would provide you the best options and also cost less.

That said, I do own and use Loooper [sic] pedals.  I have one that takes my entire pedal chain out of the loop if I want to go straight to the amp.  It also works if I have a power supply problem or some non-true-bypass pedal goes bad during a live gig.
