I have been less than entertained by guitar latly so i am looking for somthing challanging. I already can play uke and piano but piano bores me also  I want to avoid frets sooooo |

I know you don't want frets but Sitar is cool and apparently due to high action and far spaced frets it's still a challenge to get the right note.
Honestly though. Trying to learn new instruments is great but how in hell's name do you get bored by Piano and Guitar? There's so many genres, styles and nuances to learn and master. With a little twiddling a guitar is a synthesizer capable of creating ambient noises and what not.. There's so much to do with both of them.

Seriously, a theremin? All the instruments you mention are fairly expensive for decent gear. How about a flute? I just bought one off ebay for my son to play at school. I've never played one before, but I was tooting it pretty good in just a few minutes! I think I will buy myself one next. Yeah I'll be flautin it up for about $75

My brother used to play bassoons. He was very good at it too, especially for a 12 year old. Also, I have to back Q up on his sitar recommendation. I'd buy one myself if I had the money. |

If I could learn another instrument besides those 2 though, it'd probably be... I dunno. Drums, fiddle, and piano come to mind right off. I've tried mandolin and if you don't like guitar because of the frets then you'll probably hate the mando' 'cuz the frets are like 1/2 the size of guitar.

I used to collect potato ocarinas because I was so into the Legend of Zelda series. I had around 15 of them, but ended up giving them away as gifts and such over the years. They're totally fun to play! Also, I vote for mandolin, but that's only because I'm biased. =) |

I probably got the idea from LoZ as well, since thats the only place I can think of where i've seen an ocarina. Mine's blue with 6 holes on top, 2 on the bottom. Surprisingly fun to play too!  |

i have to say i already own a harmonica and a keyboard and i have a guitar moded to sound sitar-ish. money isnt a huge object also if i do a theremin i am building it myself. but i am hnestly leaning toward the cello because there is one nearby for only $450 and it comes with a case bow and extra strings. also i have friends that play violin and cello so i would have a group to work with. but then again the only instrument up there that i dont know anybody that plays is the theremin. (go figure)
