Notice he said it was preferred by "Clean" users...   As we know SS distortion isn't as "pleasant" as tubes..  But a good pedal into a Clean SS amp , can sound pretty sweet .. (the pedal becomes everything)
And  SS amps are much more reliable than tubes  , which die a long slow death ...  Facepalm

Updated the FAQ to list some famous users of each amp. Holy hell david gilmour uses alot of amps!

Can you explain pickups  Tongue

I suppose so. All I'm doing is compiling the results of a massive research (e.g. google) effort and dumbing it down to layman's terms. The pickup thing will have to wait for some time though.

Yeah I'm not really trying to make an argument for SS amps, mainly just trying to present an unbiased presentation of both here in the Amp FAQ.

I had no idea BB King used a solid state amp!  Shocked

Added info on the most famous solid state amplifiers (that I know of, anyway). Also added the "Parting Shots" section.

Anybody got any help on some of the remaining "FIXME"'s left in the document? ....

I'm going to publicly ask EVERYONE to PLEASE not feed the trolls in this thread. This thread will be too important to n00bs for it to have trolling and flaming thrown in for flavor.

Again - PLEASE do not feed the trolls here. Feed them elsewhere.

The sarcastic post that replied to this was misguided...on with the topic at hand...

I posted a remark that could be taken as sarcastic which would then be an arsey remark. MR was right to delete it. And I apologise to him and all who read it.

How about a Gear-of-the-Forum part.

Where forum members post a video/written article on their own gear/amos. Why they like it? What they use it for (Live? Which Genres?) Good points and bad points. This way we can have in depth reviews of the lesser known amps out there. Ok so it'll seem pretty random at first but once every forum member chips in there could be a nice list of info.

Something like that would need moderator assistance to ensure that 1: All of them were in the correct format, and 2: no spam made it in. It's not a bad idea though.

Updated the FAQ to include the "Gain Characteristics of Different Tubes in Tube Amplifiers" section, describing the differences between various preamp tubes, and which can be swapped with which, for what effect. Added statistics on what tubes come stock in all the famous tube amps listed, to help people get a feel for which tubes are used for what kind of sound.
